The Combinatorial Chemistry Center (CCC) at the University of Pittsburgh Chemistry Department was established because of the crucial role of basic scientific research in support of combinatorial chemistry. The CCC has been a unique place in the US academic landscape, in that it provides advanced education in combinatorial chemistry.

In designing the site, the CCC asked me to adapt the layout from the then-departmental web site. The result (select from thumbnails on right) was a simple yet fast-loading site. During 1999, CCC decided to come up with their own design and create an independent version that completely relies on images. As a result, the site was slow to load, and not very flexible.
Currently, the CCC website has undergone yet another change. What’s maybe most obvious from the redesign is that arriving at a good design is not an easy task.
