Fluorous Technologies is a rapidly expanding chemical company founded upon fluorous chemistry technologies developed by Dennis Curran at the University of Pittsburgh. To support and enable the sale of fluorous products, FTI needed an enhanced online storefront that included an online catalog, product suggestion and feedback forms.

With this change in mission came the directive to streamline the site, removing some of the large-scale images and making room for the new content. In addition, customers should have the opportunity to submit suggestions, feedback and online application forms – all of which is now handled by cgi-email form scripts (select from thumbnails on right).
The new site design was emulated from existing sites on the web, and was taken rapidly from the concept stage to the final version (using Adobe ImageStyler, Photoshop and BBEdit). The biggest part during the redesign was setting up an online catalog that could be easily updated, even by an HTML-novice. Here, we used gifs generated from within the Chemdraw software package and styled the rest with Dreamweaver.
A big source of frustration were the perennial problems with FTI’s internet service provider. Unfortunately, many things were not correctly set up, and required extensive trouble shooting to get cgi’s and the mail server to work seemlessly.
