You’re currently reading “9 Skills Separating Good From Great Designers,” one of the entries in the Bright Launch collection of articles and resources.
Designer Cameron Moll presented at the Webmaster Jam Session in Dallas on “Essential Web Skills”, loosely drawing from his work and writings over the last years. His topic dealt with features and attitudes that really separate great designers from the rest.
From looking at Cameron’s presentation slides, I agree with many of his tenets - Cameron’s main point is that great designers operate purpose-driven, always evaluating if there is indeed an objective need to realign based on changed end-user expectations, or behaviors.
Bright Launch applies a similar methodology to every client project, using design as a means to strengthen communication between you and your customers. In many instances, a simple client request (”I need a website”) turns into a full-blown reevaluation of the business model and a client’s communication strategies - resulting in much more than a website.
